Creating Inspiring Classrooms: ITB Directorate of Joint Preparatory Stage Holds Training on Gamification in Learning

Bandung, 11 June 2025 — In response to the evolving landscape of higher education and the increasing demand for adaptive learning approaches, the Directorate of Joint Preparatory Stage at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) organized a Training for Trainers (TFT) session focused on gamification in learning. Held on Wednesday, 11 June 2025, at the Freeport Building, School of Business and Management (SBM) ITB, this training was part of a broader strategic preparation for the upcoming implementation of ITB’s Pre-University Program.

The training brought together lecturers who will be directly involved in the program, which is designed to strengthen students’ academic foundations, literacy, and character during the early stages of their university journey. Through this TFT, instructors were invited to explore how game-based elements—such as challenges, points, badges, and storytelling—can be integrated into instructional design to create more engaging and motivating learning environments.

Facilitated by experts from ITB’s School of Business and Management, the training sessions combined theoretical frameworks with practical application. Participants were guided in designing contextual gamification scenarios tailored to the diverse backgrounds and learning needs of incoming Pre-University students.

Dr. Oktofa Yudha Sudrajad, S.T., M.S.M., Head of the Pre-University Program at the Directorate of Joint Preparatory Stage, emphasized that the initiative aims to build a shared vision among teaching staff while strengthening team capacity in designing learning experiences that are not only effective, but also enjoyable and impactful. He noted that gamification was chosen as a key approach because it fosters greater student participation and facilitates meaningful interaction in the classroom.

Beyond being a professional development session, the event also served as a crucial platform for coordination and collaboration among instructors and their teaching assistants. With great enthusiasm, participants shared ideas and insights on how to develop student-centered teaching strategies that are both innovative and inclusive.

Through this Training for Trainers initiative, the Directorate of Joint Preparatory Stage reaffirms its commitment to shaping innovative and transformative learning spaces, aligning with ITB’s broader vision to make a meaningful impact in the advancement of higher education.
