ITB Shares Best Practices in Foundational Course Management During Audience Session with Universitas Hasanuddin

Bandung, 13 June 2025 — Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), through the Directorate of Joint Preparatory Stage, welcomed an audience visit from Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) aimed at sharing best practices in the management and instruction of foundational courses in the basic sciences. The session took place as scheduled on Friday morning (13/6) at the Executive Meeting Room A, CCAR Rectorate Building, ITB.

This visit was part of Unhas’s initiative to enhance the quality of learning services for core science courses—namely Basic Mathematics, Basic Physics, Basic Chemistry, and Basic Biology—and to gain deeper insights into the planning, implementation, and evaluation processes of early-year coursework at ITB.

The session was opened and led by Prof. Dr. Fatimah Arofiati Noor, S.Si., M.Si., Director of the Joint Preparatory Stage at ITB. Also in attendance were:

  • Dr. Untung Triadhi, S.Si., M.Si., Head of Program Development for the Joint Preparatory Stage

  • Dr. Dian Ahmad Hapidin, S.Si., M.Si., Head of the Basic Physics Laboratory

  • Dr. Anton Timur Jaelani, S.Si., M.Si., Chair of the Preparatory Stage Education Program

Each shared insights on policies, strategies, and challenges in managing foundational courses within ITB’s academic framework.

The discussion was dynamic and open. The Unhas delegation, led by Rahmatullah, S.I.P., M.Si., Head of the Sub-directorate for Joint Courses, expressed strong interest in ITB’s cross-program course scheduling model, lecturer assignment mechanisms, and the implementation of laboratory-based practicums integrated with a continuous assessment system. The session also explored the formulation of learning outcomes and semester learning plans (RPS), which serve as critical components in implementing an outcome-based curriculum.

Through this audience session, ITB—via the Directorate of Joint Preparatory Stage—contributed to strengthening the governance of basic science education at the national level. The event embodied the spirit of inter-university collaboration in sharing experiences and jointly building a higher education system that is excellent, adaptive, and impactful.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of tokens of appreciation and expressions of hope for continued collaboration in advancing the quality of foundational education across Indonesian higher education institutions.
